Color. Make sure you are printing bar codes in true black. This means both the image on the screen and the cartridge printing the bar codes should be black. Set the cartridge setting in the printer driver to Color + Black. If the bar code is true black on-screen (color value #000000), the driver will print the bar code with the black cartridge only. Bar codes printed in any color but black may result in poor scanning quality.

Print Quality. Adjusting print quality settings can improve bar code scan quality.  Specifically lowering ink saturation can help.  See this article for more information. Often scan quality will improve if you decrease your quality setting in the printer driver.

Bloom Compensation. The driver defaults to optimal values to provide the best possible bar code scan for most bar codes, quality settings and label stock. However, certain label stock - bar code - quality setting combinations may require that you slightly adjust these values.
