My ribbon has broken. How can I fix it? How can I prevent it? (Signature Slide or Cassette Printer)
1. There may be something on the print head that is
causing breaks/tears. Clean the print head with the pink polishing paper to clear any ribbon build-up even if there is no obvious dirt.
2. Examine the cassette/slide that the ribbon broke
on. Feel for any defects on the surface. It may be defects only on certain slides/cassettes.
3. Check to make sure that
the text is not too close to the edge. If the cassette has a raised pad like
the sakura uni cassette, printing too close to the edge will cause our print
head to attempt to print over an uneven surface and break the ribbon.
Reduce size and try to stay away from edges. Also, large blocky letters and logos can sometimes
cause transfer issues try reducing the bold on the font and potentially the size
of the font.
4. Ribbon breaks can occur if the heat setting is too high. Decrease the heat setting in the Settings area of PTLab or from the printer driver preferences if you are not printing from PTLab.
To repair a ribbon break follow the procedure in section 3E of the manual.
