My labels are yellowing or discoloring in the white unprinted areas after several weeks/months of storage.
All of our inkjet label stock has been specifically designed to be highly absorbent to
allow water-based inkjet inks to set-up quickly. This characteristic while
providing for immediate smudge resistance after printing, also makes the sheet
highly receptive to airborne contaminants, which could result in a discoloration (yellowing) of the unprinted areas. Proper testing in the final application environment is
strongly recommended, especially when used on or near products with aromatic
vapors, including burning incense, scented candles, spices or products with volatile solvents.
To minimize yellowing/discoloration follow these guidelines:
- Store unprinted labels in their original sealed packaging.
- Store unprinted labels away from aromatic vapors in a storage cabinet. We recommend storing them in a sealed plastic bin if possible.
- Use labels within 2 years of purchasing. Even wrapped in their packaging the label edges can begin to yellow given enough time especially when exposed to aromas.
- If printed labels are yellowing avoid having any unprinted white areas. Design the label to be full coverage so no white is showing. Once the white areas of the label are printed they will no longer be able to absorb additional contaminants.
