How to fix an encoder strip that is out of place on your Primera Printer.

The encoder strip is a clear plastic strip with small timing marks printed on it, which tell the printer where the print head is located along the horizontal print head path. If it is knocked out of place due to cleaning, transport, or use, the printer will no longer print. The cartridge carrier may move quickly into one side or the other or you may encounter a carrier stall error. Use this method to reseat the encoder fence in the correct location without any disassembly.

Encoder strip Attached.

If your encoder Strip is still attached at both left and right sides it is probably just twisted or out of place. To prepare, power off the printer. Move the carriage to the center of the print area, then perform the procedure shown in the video.

Note: The video shows an LX610.  The process would work exactly the same on an IP60, LX600, LX610, LX910, LX3000, or Eddie.  It would be a similar concept on other Primera printer models such as LX500, Bravo SE-3, and 4200 series. However, the fix is not as simple on these models and older model printers because it is more difficult to reseat the encoder strip without direct sight of the fence.

Encoder Strip Missing or Detached.

If your encoder strip is detached from one or both sides or missing completely, the encoder mounts may have broken or come loose.  Watch this video and read this article:
