Pigment and Dye LX3000s have identical parts. Pigment and Dye LX4000s have identical parts. The only difference is the type of ink tanks and print heads that come in the box. Once you use the print head and tanks, that type of ink starts to flow into the reservoir and tubes inside the printer. So if you want to switch to a different type, you will first need to remove the other type of ink. If you mix dye and pigment ink types, it can cause quality problems and clogged print heads. However, at any point you can recover full quality and use of the printer by purchasing a conversion kit and following these instructions.
