How do I extract tracks from an Audio CD? (PrimoDVD or Discribe)

While it is possible to extract tracks using PrimoDVD or Discribe, there are many free third party software applications that can do this more efficiently and with many more features.  Windows Media Player and iTunes are two such software applications.

PC (Primo DVD)

If you would like to select audio tracks from audio CDs for use in an Audio Job, those tracks can be extracted and saved in audio formats (.WAV or MP3) on the hard drive.

Instructions:

  1. Open Primo DVD and choose any job type.
  2. Put the CD in the drive.
  3. Right click on the drive in the drive status window that contains the CD.
  4. Click Extract Track.
  5. Select the track you want to extract from the list.
  6. Choose the location and file name in the Track box at the bottom of the dialog in the track box.
  7. Click Extract.

The format is set to WAV by default but you can change it to MP3 using the format box.  To extract multiple tracks select multiple tracks and choose a file name.  A number corresponding to the track number will be added to the end of each file name.

MAC (Discribe)

If you would like to select audio tracks on a CD for use in an Audio Job, those tracks can be extracted and saved in AIF formats on the hard drive.

Instructions:

  1. Place an Audio CD in a drive connected to the Mac.
  2. Open Discribe.
  3. Choose any job type.
  4. Open the Utilities Menu at the top of the screen.
  5. Select Extract Audio...
  6. Browse to the mounted CD.
  7. Highlight the track you want to extract.  Click Choose.
  8. Choose a location and a name for the track to be extracted.  Click Save.
  9. The track will be extracted in AIF format.
