The gap sensor is used to sense the start of each label so the printer knows where to start printing. With most square or rectangular media the default position of 0.3" from the left edge is sufficient to accurately detect the gaps between each label. However, when printing to other shapes such as circles you need to adjust the gap sensor to intersect with the leading edge of the label. This video explains the process to find and adjust the gap sensor on a Primera Color Label Printer LX910 or LX3000. Other LX series printers have gap sensors that are at different locations. The gap sensor uses LED lights and light (photo) sensors to detect the difference between light shining through the media. More light passes through the liner only (the gaps) than through the liner + the label. The difference in light detection can be used to determine the start of the label.
